My bathtub faucet has a drip that is continuously progressing. If I take off handles is there a washer or something simple and not to costly to repair myself. Yes, I am a woman!

Not sure about bathtub faucets, but in my kitchen sink underneath the handle, there is a part that can be replaced for a small amount of money. (replaced it once already) It's not actually a gasket, but I think one is involved. Check with your local hardware store and they can help you.:)

If your tub has two handles it may have a ordinary stem with a washer. The washer is easily replaced, if the drip continues then the seat inside the valve must be refaced, bit more tricky. I definitely agree with ballengerb1 that the seats may need to be replaced! I have the same problem with my bathtub faucets!

If the seats are worn and need to be replaced or ground down and then new washers installed, a special wrench may be needed for removing the seats. You should be able to purchase, borrow or rent such a wrench from a hardware store.
