Basement drain hole.can I drain washing machine with this?
Hi all.. im new here.ive owned my home for about 5 years and I'm still learing... my current dilemna is that I want move my wsher and dryer to the basement.I think I know how to handle the hot and cold water plumbing but I don't know what to do about the drain... now my basement has a drain hole in the floor.it also has drain pipes (sewage pipes)big ones along 2 of the walls. What can I do here.can I just run a drain hose directly to the drain in the floor ?or do I actually have to hook it up to the sewer pipe?also is there anything else I should know about hooking up a washer and dryer in the basement besides the normal hot and cold water pipe soldering stuff?

    It ain't that easy Trav,
The waters the easy part. You will have to locate a dry vent in your basement, (you may not connect to any pipe that has a discharge flowing down it.) You may not drain into a floor drain. If the hose is lower then the water level in the washer the water will simply drain out. I've put up a rough drawing of a washer trap and standpipe, (see image) if there is a sink in the basement you could use its vent but if no dry vent's available then you're looking at major surgery. Good luck, Tom
