Unemployment for those who were self-employed
    Hello,

We owned a restaurant for four years and had to close it down just about a month ago. When we had the business we took a check on and off and the rest of the times we took draws to pay our bills. Now we have no income what so ever and having very high financial difficulty surviving with two children. Could we file for unemployment even though we were self-employed? We live in Portland OR.
    Thank you in advance

No, you would have had to be a employee, if your restaurant was a corporation and you paid yourself a salary, and if you paid in uneployment taxes on that, you could then.

But first to even draw unemployment, you had to pay the unempolyment tax from your income to the state. DId you not pay it on your other employees?? But no, self employed people can not get it.

We are self employed and a worker has filed unemployment on us what happens?
Do we have to pay in more money or does it come out of what he paid in? This is my 1st time for this and don't know anything about it. Please help me understand how this works.

I worked for a company for 10 months, now I am self-employed. I will no longer have work by the end of this year and was wondering if I qualify for unemployment. I live in California
