BAD odor in house and garage
I have owned my house for about a year now and there has been a dead animal smell off and on during this time. The first time it went away I was relieved thinking it was over, however several weeks later it was back. I cannot find a leak, a dead animal or any clue to the problem. I know there is something causing the problem because numerous large flies appear every time the odor returns. This weekend I even cut into the sheetrock to see if I could locate the source and nothing... I don't know who to call - any suggestions?

Sewer gasses can back up if you have any drains where the water in the trap has dried up. Floor drain in the garage? I know this sounds unlikely but I have seen it happen and the smell is awful.

It seems to me if you have flies showing up that it's most likely rats crawling into a crawl space between the walls.
If you do a search for dead animal removal on the Internet You will find several companies that will come out and take care of the problem. They have the tools to find the source.

Once you have removed the source and sealed the area I highly recommend you get a product called Room Shocker it will decontaminate the rooms in your house and destroy all the bacteria, mold fungus or any secretion from the dead animal that causes the odor.
I'm a plumber by trade, so I deal with this problem all the time. This product com has come in handy numerous times. It works really well and will eliminate any severe odor at the source.

It's it's fairly new and hard to find, but you can get it on the website called BiocideSystems.com.

    Good luck to you.

Check your wall outlets! Sniff them. We have the same smell and it's coming from an outlet in the wall. I have read around online that it could be melted and it will have a rotten, fishy or just funky animal smell.
