    Hunting for arrowheads in Ohio
I want to take my family to Ohio just to go camping and go on arrowhead hunts, is there anywhere we could go to do this. Maybe a place that does this like a tourist type activity?

I don't know about Ohio, but in Pliny, WV has arrowheads in the fields. Along Rt. 35 where they plant corn, most of the fields are full of them. After the farmers plow, you can maybe ask to search the fields. It's not too far from Gallopolis, Ohio. I have a old cigar box full of arrowheads. Most of them were found near Pliny, WV. Good Luck!

    Hi, shannonknight!

If you contact the Archaeological Society of Ohio, they will probably be able to help you.

The link for them is HERE.

    Thanks!

I can't help you about hunting in Ohio but I can give you a couple of hints about hunting arrow heads. It is always to hunt after a heavy rain, the rain washes the dirt off heads that have just been exposed by plowing or the wind blowing. One other hint is always look for rocks that have been burned by a campfire, and by that I mean rocks that are four inches or so or bigger. Even though it may have been a hundred years or so ago the black will still show.

Thanks for the tips, letmetellu! I'll have to remember them! I live in the area where Chief Blackhawk lived with his tribe.

    Thanks!

Try farm fields near Zoar and Bolivar, Ohio. I grew up there and found a few as a child just glacing around. One big black arrowhead, my dog dug up in his pen. I have never had the patience to hunt for them professionally but if I did I would start in those old corn fields near Ft. Laurens in Bolivar, Ohio. Lots of interesting ancient history and activity in the area.
