Severe abdominal pain several weeks after a vaginal hysterectomy
Hi, I am a 46 year old female who had a vaginal hysterectomy done on Feb. 14th of this year, along with a bladder lift. Two days after surgery I had to have two blood transfusion and was in the hospital for five days. One week after discharged from the hospital I was back in the E.R. with sever abdominal pain and bloating. They did a cat scan and found a small internal bleed, was readmitted into the hospital for observation for two days. I have followed up with my ob doctor as I should be doing and every time I go to him, I am told the same thing everything is going well. This is now March 31 st and I am still having severe abdominal pain, in my upper abdominal area. I really need to know what is going on with me, I know this is not normal...

A hysterectomy is so easy because they are removing something that was floating free anyway, with few nerves at the cervix. The bladder lift however is going to hurt. You are 'fine' as long as you have no fever and no sign of infection or internal bleeding; they will say that the pain is just the muscles that have been rearranged, and the nerves going to them. Which will hurt for a while... but I agree that severe pain since 2/14 is on the verge of not right, unless you had very weak abdominal muscles. Unfortunately there are times when a nerve gets pinched or something, and the only option then is to test nerves (can be painful) and there are so many nerves it may not be worth it.
There are people who say don't remove a uterus unless you have to, because it leaves a void for organs to sag into, and to do exercises for prolapse. Any surgery has it's dangers, can have lingering pain, and pain down the line from scar tissue too.

Given that the surgery didn't go routinely, you might want to consult another surgeon, or another OB first if you can't get a reference to one.
Sometimes a doctor/surgeon relationship is protective of each other and the hospital they are affiliated with.
