Mandy, I took the symptoms of tightness of chest and throat, among the spreading of the hives. If you read the entire thread, you will also note that she is on antibiotics. Antibiotics are very well known for anaphylactic reactions, as well as shellfish. She is on the coast right now and if she is eating shellfish, this could be the culprit also.

Scabies will not affect the respiratory system in the manner that this OP is being affected.

J_9, My throat is sore but my chest does not hurt anymore. My fingers are swelling but the itching is easily treated by benadryl liquid or aveeno cream. I am positive they are bite marks- after the swelling and redness goes away I see tiny little scabs. My uncle thinks I was bit by sand fleas. I did touch sand on the beach and then rub it off on my clothes- he thinks they hitched a ride on my clothing and bit me. I have not gotten any new bites since I have left Maine, (I am in Boston now with my aunt and uncle), but my left pinky and right middle finger have randomly swollen up since I left. Also, it is mostly affecting my feet and ankles, which fleas go after the most, and my other joints, which fleas also enjoy because the think skin is closer to the veins. I was freaking out over these symptoms and my grandma thinks the chest pain was from anxiety. I don't know why my fingers are swelling though. I really think it was the fleas. Your opinion?

    EDIT:

I've also been taking these antibiotics for a while. The allergic reaction would have started sooner, wouldn't it? They start 10-20 minutes after you come in contact with the allergen, right? If my throat were going to close up, that also would have start sooner right?

oh and also, I hate shellfish.

As I said in my first response to you... it sounds like sand fleas. I have experienced them firsthand.

Most of the time you will experience a reaction to antibiotics right away, yet other times, especially if it is a new allergy, it can take days for the allergy to flare up.

But, again, I believe it is sand fleas.

OK, so if it's sand fleas, what do I do? Will the bumps go away on their own? What about my finger swelling? Because I keep getting more fingers swelling up but no more itchy bumps

OK the swelling is all gone but what do I do about the bites? I washed all my clothes in case any fleas were hiding in them

Take cool oatmeal baths, just like you did with the chickenpox last year. And keep using benadryl, it should go away soon.

Tehe thanks! They're doing much better now. I'm still itchy but they don't swell up anymore. My grandma says flea bites stay itchy for a little while. True?

I'm back home. I'm almost 100% sure I was bit by sand fleas because I was looking at the bag of shells I collected and there was definitely some dead fleas in there. Thanks so much again :)
