Snakes? Gorgeous creatures. I love them.
I don't mind snakes either. They aren't the slimy creatures some people think they are. You get a better feel for them by handling the larger ones.

I would much prefer a snake over a spider. Especially here in Canada where we have no poisonous snakes! I just can't stand the smell of snakes.

Garder snakes release that smell to ward off things, If you are gentle and have that touch, you can hold one without it smelling up the place!

Copperheads have a good smell, cucumber-ish to me.

I love snakes. They are such fascinating creatures.

As a child I used to find garder snakes, black snakes, and copper heads and hold them. (I realize now as I'm older the copperheads were not such a good idea, but I never once got bitten)

There was this beautiful black snake in my grandmother's basement one day, had to be at least 4ft long. He was huge and so pretty. I was the only one willing to get it out of the basement. Funny actually seeing as how I was a 12 year old girl surrounded by middle aged adults, including 2 men.

Thanks for sharing, lyra. Yes, snakes do not scare me either, of course, being a lot older then you and wiser probably, I pick the ones I want to hold, but basically the larger snakes are just lovely to hold and actually quite gentle. They know their strengths and can 'feel' your compatibility.

Now I do not pick up just any snake, I was even younger then. Tick, I'm curious, how old do you think I am?
