Being Firm about wage requirement but still being nice
I have an interview on Tuesday at a place I really want to work at. I currently have a job (5 Years now) but I want a change and this is everything I am looking for. However I don't think it pays exactly what I need. I am a very confident person and I feel my interview will go well but when they ask about how much I want to be paid (which I know they will ask) how do I go about telling them what I want, without them throwing out my resume the second they hear it?

Don't be afraifd to ask. Personally when I hire people I don't worry about what the desired compensation is unless it's totally out of line. Of course I expect to see much better than average experience and capability in someone requesting a higher than average salary, and if their resume doesn't reflect that I pass it by. One caveat here - my experience is in hiring people for jobs in the corporate world where pay ranges are pretty much tied to salary grades and experience. For smaller firms where cash flow is a concern they may not be willing to pay more even if you the right experience. Bottom line - don't be afraid to request what you think you deserve, and let them counter. If you're out of line they'll let you know. Good luck!

MATCHMAKER ALERT (Nice guys do not always finish last -but NICE nice guys do) [ 2 Answers ]

There is a general thought that: - nice guys don't get the girl. - nice guys get walked on. - nice guys get left behind. It's not that simple. 1. Nice guys can get any girl. As long as they "own their space" -- that is, they know themselves and their life purpose and what drives them.
