I am buying a range to replace a wall oven with a cooktop over set in corian. So I want to pull out the two units and cut the countertop without removing it if I can. I was looking at the Rotozip RFS1000 to do this job but I am wondering if I am going to have a hard time getting a nice clean straight cut using a saw like this? I suppose I could make a partial cut with my circular saw up until it hits the wall, using a carbide blade of course, and just finish it off with the zip saw. Any suggestions?

First support the piece to be removed so that it does not crack as you finish the cut.

You can cut back to about 3" from the back splash with a circular saw. Corian is no harder than rock maple so you do not need a carbide saw. Use a cross cut blade. Cutting slowly, 30 inches per minute, will assure a good controlled cut and less dust.

You can use hot melt glue to glue down a wooden fence. Always apply the hot melt to the wood first then apply to the Corian. Other wise the Corian will suck the heat out of the glue too fast. Use a few large globs rather than a thin line. To remove the fence use a few drops of alcohol to release the glue. Wait a few minutes and pop it off.

Finish the cuts with an oscillating multi-tool Video: Oscillating Multi-Tool. Harbor Freight has a nice one cheap. Use the wood flush blade. It will not be fast but you will have good control.

Make sure to sand the edges smooth or the tool marks will be a place for a crack to start.
