Main burners on my carrier furnace not lighting
I have a carrier natural gas furnace, model no. 58es080-30. The pilot light ignites, then you can hear a clicking noise, after about 15-20 seconds the blower fan starts up but the main burners are not lit. The furnace has acted like it's been having trouble igniting in the past few weeks, seems like sometimes you could hear the clicking noise 7-8 times before the main burners would ignite, now I have nothing burning but the pilot. Any suggestions would be apperciated. Thanks.

If you have a standing pilot that you can see then you also have a switch on the pilot that has to get hot to switch to the gas valve position. From the clicking noises you described it sounds like it is doing this so I think it could be a problem with you gas valve. To check this you need a voltage meter that will show you voltages. And as you hear the clicking you need to check the voltage going to the gas valve, it should be getting 24 volts. If it is and still not opening that is the sign of a bad gas valve.

If you have a furnace with a hot surface ignitor that glows white hot to light the burners then it is a different thing all together. So give us some info about which pilot you have.
