    Success!!

I had a furnace technician in today and we seem to have solved the problem. After explaining what had been occurring, and all the things that all of you had me try, he was able to jump directly to the board. After checking the ground and the rest of the connections he was satisfied there. Next he checked the "Intermittent Pilot Ignition Control" and its spasmodic led(see pic below). He looked up the code for "flashing uncontrollably as if on speed" and noted that the book didn't have that code i.e. it must be broken. $209.95 later and we have heat! Finally! It completes the full cycle and restarts again like its brand new.

I can't thank all of you enough for chipping in with ideas. We may not have nailed down the problem, but having completed the other steps saved the technician time and me money! People I have been talking to, found it hard to believe that there is help out there for things like this. Now they do, and so do I!

Thanks again for all your help.

PS for those to lazy to read all posts, and your furnace doesn't want to complete a full cycle or won't restart after reaching heat here's some tips from the crew:

-Check your airflow : is the filter clean or new (thanks Northern and T-Top), is your inducer spinning taking the hot air away so your furnace doesn't overheat? (thanks Felrio)

-Check your flame sensor : hard to find and harder to reach or remove, but check if its dirty or clean without it the furnace thinks the pilot has failed to light. Can't find it? Ask the boyz they'll help you (thanks labman)

-Check all your connections : the boards have touchy grounds, make sure all the connections are snug and firm (thanks T-top)

-Check your Thermostat : cut it out of the loop by jumping the R and W on the board, see above for the details (thanks Labman)

-And finally if you can't beat it call in a pro but at least with these guys help you will know a little more about your furnace and the tech won't sound like he's speaking a foreign language to you when he hands you a big bill.

    Hey,

Every time we turn the furnace on it works just fine, but every night its shuts off and it won't turn back on till the next morning we have to fix it and try to turn it on manually. Its gas, and it stops working when the temp. drops outside, brand name american aire, replaced igniter glow plug, and replaced thermostat. On the motherboard it looks like one of the chips is sort of burnt out but I don't know if it is still working or not.

Why are you posting your problem in someone else's thread, one that was obviously solved almost 2 years ago? If you want help with your problem then please start your own thread and supply information on your furnace or else we cannot help you.

Burned? Turn power off and carefully dismount the board. Inspect the backside of the burned area for evidence of circuit path failure.

Easy now. The Censorship Nazi might throw a penalty flag at you. I got one for cartooning up a supposedly "bad" word.

This is a Amana Air Command
    Natural gas

Furance starts and runs, doesn't restart on next clcye, blower motor runs but no heat, seems like glow plug dose not re ignite just blow cool air, if you shut furnace off and restart glow plug will ignite and furnace will run for one cycle.
