My furnace is leaking from the drain pipe, the pipe that drains moisture from the evap coil. It is a clear plastic hose that flows into my laundry tub. It is leaking about 20 gallons a day from this drain pipe. Is this normal? My water bill was just really high, because of this. How much water is suppose to leak from this drain pipe? If any at all? What is the drain pipe for? And how can I fix this problem? I weather has been in the 20's and teens the last few weeks. Could the cold weather recently with all the snow we got, over 20 inches have something to do with all this leaking from the drain pipe? I have gas heat with ac.

Water bill has nothing to do with the furnace. There should be no water coming out of the drain for the evap coil unless air conditioner is on. Most likely the water you are talking about is from the furnace itself. If the furnace is a high efficiency unit(90+) it will create condensation. Twenty gallons a day seems a bit high, Usually more like five gallons a day. This is perfectly normal.

Is it humidifier wtr.?

Is the system equipped with a humidifier? If so, you may be seeing wastewater coming from the drainpipe.

Good question johnair, this would indeed cause the water bill to go up and explain the high volume of water being used if the silinoid on the humidifier were stuck open. Good thinking.

Yes the furnace is equipped with a humidifier. If the silinoid on the humidifier were stuck open how would I go about fixing it? And where would it be located at on the humidifier?

Try turning the power no off to the furnace when the humidifier is running it will reseat the solenoid

I tried turning the furnace on and off a few times. It unfortuneately didn't fix the problem. Any other ideas on how to fix it? Is there any way for me to turn the humidifier off? Do I need the humidifier for anything?

If you follow the water supply tubing from the humidifier, you should find some type of stop valve. Turn this off until the water solenoid can be repaired or replaced.
