Before I call a repair man would anyone here have an answer to why my oil burner will not kick on? Because of the cost of oil and the summer months offering some relief from the expense I decided to switch off the emergency switch so my expense on heating the hot water would be limited. For 2 days I have heated water for dishes on the stove, because there are very few dishes. However for bathes, I turned the switch on to allow hot water. This went fine for both days, and today when I turned it on the burner did not turn on.:confused:

The green light is intermittently flashing by the re-set red button. I attempted to re-set it yet nothing happened. Is there something I need to do now or must I call the repair man and never switch the hot water off again? :(

Turn off all power to the boiler then turn back on. Try to reset again. If that does not work call your local oil repair person. While they are there tell them to tune the burner/replace nozzle/oil line filter/combustion chamber/etc. This way you will be ready for winter also. A good tune can save cut down the amount of oil you are using.

After trying to reset a few times my oil burner no longer will allow a reset. I know that is a safety feature, but what is the likely cause of the failure? It seems that there is no ignition.

It could be out of oil.
It could have lost its prime
It could be a defective check valve in the pump.
It could be the oil pump itself.
It could be bad electrodes.
It could be a plugged oil filter.
It could be a defective cad cell detector.
It could be a defective nozzle
It could be a bad transformer.
It could be a bad motor to pump coupling.
It could be a bad reset safety. The one you keep pushing the button on.
It could be the electric motor for the burner.

And on and on.

There is no such thing as a likely cause since all the above problems can stop your burner from working.

Educated guess? Primary control since it will not reset. Some of the newer one have a anti tamper design.

Time to call a pro for ON SITE repair.

The filter was new a few months ago & a new circulator was put on this year because I added a zone. My guess it is in the electronics. Would turning the power off for 12 hours at a time cause the problem? What is the CAD cell? Thanks

Thank you for your help, this oil burner has been a questionable problem for sometimes in that this switching off the emerency caused a problem once before. I have had repair men here on all occasion without any luck at getting answers. That is why, I am leary to call them back. In fact the last time I called because of the new zone he put in, there was a banging in the pipes ,where he replied it would be yet another charge and repair. The time before, I believe I had posted here about the gassett leaking when the switch was accidentally turned off.
