Need to put My name on my son's Birth Certificate.
I would like to put my name on my son's birth certificate. I did not at the time of his birth due to a question in my mind of whether he was mine or not. He was born 6 months after his mother and I got together. I found out after the fact that he was born early due to her having diabetes. She swears to me that he is my biological child, and I believe her. She has said that I can put my name on his BC and I have told her that I will take care of all that needs to be done. I just don't know where to start. I am currently in North Carolina and they are in Phoenix, AZ. I am working on getting back to Phoenix but am having a bit of trouble doing that. I would like to try and see what I can do from here if I can, or if its better I will do it in Phoenix when I get back in a cpl weeks. The child's mother is currently engaged and I have found out that her fiancé is wanting to change my sons last name to his, once they get married next March. My son has my last name as of now. That's why I need to get my name on his BC as soon as possible. That way I have legal rights to see him. As of right now she is denying me any contact to see or speak to him. Any help that anyone can offer is much appreciated. If more info from me is needed please let me know and I will provide what ever I can.

You need to go to court and establish paternity through the court system. You will be required to take a DNA test and you will know for sure either way. What state was the baby born in and is it different from where the baby is now ?

He was born and still resides in Phoenix, AZ. I just called the hospital where he was born and they are sending me some paper work that I and the mother needs to fill out in order to add my name to his BC. When I get back to Phoenix in a cpl weeks Im going to see if the mother will still allow me to add my name and if she will fill out the paperwork and go with me to get my name added. She and I are still somewhat in contact and she is saying that she loves me and wishes I was home, so we shall see. Thank you for the help and I wioll leave word here as to what happens.

Since this is what you have said in your post:
( quote ) The child's mother is currently engaged and I have found out that her fiancé is wanting to change my sons last name to his, once they get married next March. ( end quote )

I wouldn't sign anything until I ran all this through the courts. Get the DNA test and make things legal. It sounds like she is playing some extreme games if she says she " loves you " and is already engauged to another man and planning a wedding. Don't get suckered in. Do it right. Go to court and establish yourself and also set up child support should the child be yours. Gain your rights first.

    Check out this site:
Things You Should Know About Establishing Paternity for Your Child in Arizona

It seems to cover all the bases on how you can get paternity established (and that's your first step). There is a way (thru DHS) whgere you do not have to go to court at all, but both parents need to agree to complete the paperwork.
