30 amp buss fuse - TL vs W
RE: electric clothes dryer fuse to replace

What is the difference between these 30 amp buss fuses -- TL vs W?

When should I use TL and when W?

The W series is a fast acting fuse, and the TL series is a Time Delay.

Time delay is designed to allow the high inrush current from a motor starting to flow, and allow the motor to start. The inrush current reduces down to normal running current after a few cycles.

A W offers more precise protection, if needed, by limiting current to a level closer to the fuse rating. Depending on the size motor, or other device with high inrush current, a W fuse may open if the inrush current is too great.

For most purposes, including this dryer, the Time Delay fuse is recommended.
