    Puppy won't walk on leash
My three month old puppy won't walk on a leash, as soon as I hook her leash up she just ducks and stays close to the ground and even tries pulling away sometimes. I if carry her away from the house and put her down with the leash attached she will go back to the house but that is the only time she will walk on the leash. I have tried giving her treats every couple of steps but it doesn't seem to work. I left her leash hooked up and let her walk around on her own and she has no problem with that, but as soon as the other end of the leash is in someone hand she won't move. What should I try or what should I do to fix it.

    Myth
Do you have a friend or relative that has a dog that walks on a leash? I would try walking her with another dog... works the same with kids... When I was teaching my mothers chow how to walk on a leash I taught her by exsample... little ones *kids or dogs* hate to be behind in anything... that's also what happens in daycare with kids... it's always easier to pottytrain if someone else is getting rewards for it... use psychology on her... lol... works most of the time, just be sure that the other dog isn't aggressive and introduce them to each other in a netural setting, like a park. It would also be better if she has already played with the other dog. Dogs are social by nature, they are pack animals so I would suggest finding her a playmate, one you can trust, and think of an older dog. You might also adopt and "older sibling" from a local shelter so that they both have a compainion of the same species if not breed. Hope that helps you.

Try to reinforce her all the time. For every little step. Tell her shes a good girl for everything she does outside. Pet her and hold her head towards your face and let her give you kisses and tell her shes a great dog. I did this with my 5 month old pup and it took a week to get him to walk but it worked. Tell her its OK over and over again and let her lick at your hands. Hold the leash firm but dont move until shes taking small steps and tell her shes a really good girl.the steps will start to move more quick and continue to reinforce her.

Once you can get her to do little steps and she's walking while you tell her she's a good girl.. give her a small tug if she pulls away until she moves again. While you tug at her tell her she's a good girl and if she's moving! Success.

If not moving.. bend down and pet her and continue to tell her its OK etc.

sometimes i just give him a tight aggressive pull and he starts to walk behind me then eventually starts tagging along with me.

Also try letting her off the leash and walk foward. She will follow you and this will teach her to focus on you and what you do outside. It helped my puppy I hope you give it a try. Just be patient and keep trying.

    Hi, turbo,
The other answer you have received are very good!
Here are a couple more things to consider:
Put the leash on in the house. Then, just walk away. Be sure to keep an eye on her, because you don't want her running away with it, getting it caught on something. Then, just let her make the next move. Maybe hold up a favorite toy, so she will start to move with it on.
You could also tie a piece of yarn around her neck, no leash, and let her get used to the yarn first.
Dogs can be very "stubborn" sometimes, and their behavior can be altered to cure it.
As a new puppy owner, I highly recommend a video by Ceaser Millan, a Professional Dog Behaviorist. He rehabilitates dogs, and trains people.

He has his own TV program, the Dog Whisperer, on the NGEO (National Geographic) channel, on Friday nights mainly, but also comes on some other days. This video is available from:
    http://www.dogpsychologycenter.com/

There are other good videos available on the web, but this one is really worth your attention.
Please watch just one of his TV episodes, if you get the channel. You will get "hooked" on it; just like I did. It's GREAT.
I do wish you the best of luck.

I was having the same problem with my 11 week old pitbull male. All you have to do is pull the leash slowly but with force. Drag the dog if you have to. Your in charge not the dog. Once the dog starts walking start with positive reinforcement. When the dog stops walking again just pull him again. My dog was walking on its own without me pulling by the end of the walk
