    New Pit Bull won't eat
Hello I just rescued a beautiful Brindle Pit Bull. He is about 2 yrs old. I brought him home last night, he didn't eat then I thought because he was new to our family. He had been mistreated. Today he fits in like he has been here for years, playing with the kids wagging his tail and having a ball. BUT HE WON'T EAT!! I feed all my other dog's (Blue Heelers) Puppy chow and Dog chow. He wouldn't touch it so I tried lunch meat he wouldn't have any part of that either. He doesn't drink either. We have already fallen in love with this big guy!! Any suggestions? We want him to he happy and HEALTHY..
    Thanks
    Lisa

As long as he has checked out OK with your vet, then give him a day or 2 to adjust to your home. He won't starve in 2 or 3 days. Some dogs are just not food hounds and they eat only when they are hungry. I'm sure after all of the play and love he is getting with you and your family he will be ready to eat in not time.

Thank you by the way for taking the time to save a life in need.

Good luck and keep us posted

    Hi,
I have never heard of any dog starving itself to death; unless of course, there is a very bad medical problem. Your dog doesn't sound like that. He needs time to adjust, as another has said. Since you mentioned having other dogs, you might already be aware of the amount of exercise a PittBull needs!
They were originally bred to chase bulls, at bull fights, and in pastures, getting to go where the owners wanted them! They need a lot of exercise. If they don't get it, like brisk 45 min. walks every day, they will turn into being bored, and become very aggressive.
I apologize if you already know this, and here is some more information on dogs:
I highly recommend a video by Ceaser Millan, a Professional Dog Behaviorist. He rehabilitates dogs, and trains people.

He has his own TV program, the Dog Whisperer, on the NGEO (National Geographic) channel, on Friday nights mainly, but also comes on some other days. This video is available from:
    http://www.dogpsychologycenter.com/
I also ordered his new book, "Ceaser's Way", from Walmart online, around $15 US, and it's very good!

There are other good videos available on the web, but this one is really worth your attention.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with Pitt Bulls, providing the owner knows how to train them, and how to give them the exercise they need, on a daily basis. They have been banned by some State and local ordinances, simply because the owners would not take the time to train them, and be aware of what they should do. I do wish you the best, and good luck.

Thanks for your kind words about my pit bull. They do have a bad name. We have other pit bulls and you are right if they are trained right they can be mans best friend. Many of our friends have pits and they are a part of the family. They have so much love to give. We have never had any trouble with them. Right now he is laying with my little girl on the bed with his head on her shoulder.
    God Bless
