Hi my name is Amber, I have an 8 month old Australian Sherpherd. 2 weeks ago I had to take him to the vet because he threw up 4 times in the matter of a few hours, he could not keep any food down but was able to keep water down OK.
The vet when I took him in said he looked OK after looking him over and checking his stools, which were solid and said he could have a normal stomach bug or could have eaten to fast. The vet gave me some medicine to coat his throat and stomach 2 hours before eatting, also pain medication because his belly seemed a little sore when she pushed in.
It has been 2 weeks and he has seemed himself again other then now he has only been eating maybe once or twice a day not sure if this is due to him getting older? And today he has not eaten at all yet, has been drinking water though but when I took him outside he threw up 2 times one right after the other and I noticed it was a slimy white foam, after he threw up the last time there were bits of white foam hanging from his mouth. He has had all his shots so I know it is not rabies but wondering if I should be overly concerned or not? Also his belly is not hard at all, does not seem sore to touch anymore and his gums are a nice pink.

This is a common thing. Throwing up white foam usually means that the dog is having tummy issues. It happens all the time. Just like humans, dogs get tummy aches. Especially puppies because they tend to get into things they shouldn't.

Keep an eye on him. If he refuses to eat tomorrow then I would definitely go to the vet.

Is he active? Playing? Or is he sleeping a lot? When he goes outside is he trying to eat grass? Even though some studies show that dogs don't eat grass to cure ails that are bothering them, I truly believe that they do. I've seen it too many times with my dogs. They puke, they don't feel good, they go outside, eat grass, they feel better.

If the vomiting continues, and you can't get to the vet, then gatorade or pedialyte (for excessive vomiting) will help keep him hydrated.

Keep in mind that I'm not a vet. Even if I was, I can't give you an accurate diagnosis online. In other words, I'm guessing, and I'm basing my post on the experience I've had with my dogs. If you're worried, take him to the vet, that's always the best course of action when you're concerned.

Since he's a puppy and you said that when you took him to the vet he had pain when the vet put pressure on his abdomen, I'd be concerned that he might have eaten some non-food item and it may be blocking his digestive track.

I would take him back to a different vet and ask them to check him out.

Eating once or twice a day is normal for a dog- they really shouldn't be fed more often than that barring some special instructions from your vet, and it's good he is eating. The foam is likely just digestive fluids and I would not be concerned about rabies. Rabies progresses rapidly and includes a lot of other very noticeable symptoms, and if you take your dog to the vet there is no way they aren't giving him rabies shots, I can't imagine.

Puppies put everything in their mouths and often swallow things they shouldn't. It can be dangerous if left untreated but if found it can be safely addressed.

He has finally eaten, he is very active still playing with the kids. He has not eaten any grass an having normal bowl movement and it is solid. I will keep an eye on him thank you for you knowledge.

Throwing up white foam is very common. If I rushed my dogs to the vet every time they did that, I'd be there every month.

But, do keep an eye out. Continue to watch him.

As for your pup, one thing I learned as not only a fur baby parent, but a parent of human babies, follow your gut. If you're really worried then a trip to the vet, or doctor (depends on the baby) is never a bad decision.

White foam vomiting is very common. I won't say there's nothing wrong. Something is wrong. Is it worth a $300 plus trip to the vet? Not unless it continues, and doesn't get better in a day or two.

Just remember one thing. Dogs and humans, we have a lot in common when it comes to illness. Sadly a dog can't tell you "Human, I have a tummy ache. I'm not feeling great".

If he's eating, playful, drinking, and being himself, other than puking white foam, I wouldn't worry. But again, I'm not a vet. Please keep that in mind. I only say it because I want you to know that I can only go by what I've experienced with my pets, I can't diagnose. No one can diagnose online, not even a vet.

You're the mommy of this fur baby. If you're at all concerned, if you're really worried, then a trip the vet is always what I would recommend. Better safe than sorry.
