You'll sell your coal to the Chinese until every lump is out of the ground . Who are you kidding ? Nice that you can sit in your corner of the world and not be concerned about Iran . When they become the regional hegemon we'll see if the world misses the US intervention.

`yes Tom and our Iron ore too, but don't worry we sold steel to the Japanese before WWII, and if I remember rightly your war with the Japanese was about oil embargoes, so as a policy it is a failed policy as none of us wants to fight your wars, we would rather trade. Iran is the result of your interference, a backlash you didn't forsee, another failure of your intelligence services. But China has a different policy, they have loaned you a great deal of money, so you go on selling Bonds to the Chinese until you have none left to sell, and then it will be you who has the problem, not us

I wouldn't count on us defaulting on our treasury bonds Clete. Nor in believing the country is falling off a cliff, because of all the back and forth in the media. We have plenty of bonds to sell and it's the preferred investment option in the world, and not just for China.
But you should be concerned over what we do in Iran, if they persist in their destabilization of the middle east through terrorism, and their alliance with N. Korea, in development of a delivery system for nukes.
I also respectfully submit, that your spin on history is a bit skewed, and leaves out pertinent facts that explained the real cause and effects of American foreign policy. Its always about the money, and whether through treaty or trade, engagement with foreign governments is the lynch pin to that goal. In the absence of government by some of the countries, dictator, president, priminister makes no difference, a tribal leader will do.

Yes Tal you have an any port in a storm foreign policy, you don't care who you deal with as long as you make a profit. How many of your former clients have become enemies, pyriahs? I don't like the possibilities for my country in the future after being one of your client states

I don't know about that, you are now making your presence felt in our region where before you were content to leave it to us, but I guess now that the workload isn't so heavy you have to put those troops somewhere, but honestly, drones on Christmas Island, who are you threatening, Indonesia, or India? I get the idea that if there is a muslim nation nearby you want to be just over the horizon

In yet another austral moment and a harbinger of doom for the left side of politics, Bob Brown, doyen of the environmental lobby, has resigned from political life. He will now no doubt see all his hard work go to waste as the conservative side of politics is on the ascendency. And a;; this just when the Murray Darling plan was about to get the olde heave ho
Good riddence!

We have not polluted it at all, Bob was a tree hugger, par excellence, and was particularly concerned with keeping Van Dieman's Land pristine.
He was dangerous as his policies were far left and he always opposed a proposal as not far enough. Right at this moment he held the balance of power in our federal politics and I expect was responsible for red caviar's switch to supporting a carbon tax. It is interesting that he ducks just before the impact of that policy will be felt
