Garage door opener light won't shut off
We have a Stanley garage door opener. It's old enough that it doesn't have the eye by the door. A few days ago the courtesy light stopped shutting off after the 5 minute time limit and now it just stays on. I've unplugged it for 15 seconds and I've thrown the circuit breaker for 30 seconds in order to try to reset it.

Any ideas on what it could be and how to fix it?

Good chance a relay on the control board is sticking. They are a daunting task for a DIY to diagnose and repair. Chances are a new board would be expensive if you found one. I would be tempted to stick a compact fluorescent bulb in it and leave it on all the time if it fits. You could even look at some of the newer stuff including LED's.

Thanks :) I was thinking of taking out the light bulbs all together if the repair was going to be expensive. I'm a little leary of an electrical fire.

I'm thinking that a new motor is around $150.

The basic CFL draws 13-14 watts, tough to start a fire with. If you really need a light, another option would be a motion sensor light.

Hummm, that would fix the problem of being left in the dark when I mess around with something in the garage before going in the house.

I emailed Genie and their Help person said it sounded like a short in the wall control pad. When I popped off the cover and blew out the spider webs and bugs, it worked fine!

When shutting my Stanley garage door all the sensors go off the light goes off on the top, and the button on the inside of the garage quits working... and the sensors on the floor shut off I have to wiggle the door to get them back on and then it may shut or stop and I have to do it all again any idea why?
