My cat had 4 kittens a week ago. Now I have seen a black thing what I don't think is a flea and looks more like a mini forky tail bug , but I have been told all kittens are born with fleas and I am on he verge of a break down as I have 2 cats and no spare cash to pay for frontline as that is what I swear by! HELP! My kittens are 1 week old now.:eek:

They aren't born with them but the minute they are born they can and will get them from the mother. You can not use Frontline or any flea stuff on them because they are too little. Make sure you get rid of them or they WILL kill the kittens.
Ask the vet how to get rid of them. You can ask at Petsmart too.

No, they are not born with fleas, but NOHelp4u is right, they can catch them straight away.

Wash the kittens in warm water and a very mild dishwashing detergent.
Make sure the kittens are always kept warm and dry them straight away (do them one by-one and keep them separated after each one is bathed)

Once the kitten is dry manually pick the fleas off them... comb through their fur.

You will need to treat the mother with a flea treatment and either throw away or thoroughly wash all of the bedding... even consider using a flea bomb on your house.

This will kill all the fleas... but not the eggs.

Wait a few days to a week and repeat the process once all the eggs have hatched and before they get a chance to lay eggs of their own.

The ealiest commercial flea treatment can be used at 6 weeks of age.

When I first came on this site there was someone asking a similar question so researched it and came up with this on pretty much every site...
It can be dangerous if you let the kittens get cold and the mother might get upset about having them taken away so if anyone out there has any other suggestions I'd love to add them to my list.
