Is it a wild cat? If so, get a Havahart trap from the Farm store (Tractor Supply) - or borrow one - most farmers, SPCAs have them - and bait it with canned cat food - they are pretty easy to catch. Check the trap every day! Bring the trap and the cat to the SPCA when you catch it, and repair any holes that more animals could fit through.

Try your best to calm the animal. Take some cat foodor make some chicken broth,or better yet a can of tuna fish. Talk to the animl, see if it will come to you. If so, great! If not, put down the food, stand out of sight and wait. Unfortuneatly cats are extremely independent and stubborn. Let me know how it goes. Just please be nice to kitty... (sorry, major animal lover)

The cat had been hurt and is extremely afraid of everyone and everything. She is well now but likes to be alone. We tried a trap but maybe did not leave it long enough. She would stay there forever if we fed her and gave her water.

Get a cardboard box and cover securely with plastic, make sure that it is taped tightly, so the flapping does not scare her. Cut an large opening in one end. Also on the oppisite cut an opening small for her to fit through in case she would have to make a quick escape. I hope that if you keep the cat you get it spayed/neutered. A rescue group may help you with the cost. Remember they can be a lot of company and comfort, they also chase little vermin away. :)
