How do you check the fuel pump on a 1993 honda civic dx?
I was just driving my 1993 Honda Civic 1.5 dx 5 speed today and it just quite running. The gas gauge shows a 1/2 of tank of gas. I guess the gas gauge shows the amount of gas even when the switch is in the off position ? When the car stalled I was driving about 40 mph and it did not spudder or anything just shout down. The car will still turn over but I don't know if it is getting gas or not. Where is a good place to start checking to find out the problem? I have never had any problem out of this car till today! PLEASE Help !

If you can hear the fuel pump run, when the ignition switch is turned to ON (Position II), then it is likely fine. Greater than 90% of all crank but won't start situations are electrical related, not fuel.

Check all under hood and under dash fuses with a test light or multimeter. Be very thorough. Especially check the ACG (ALT) (S) fuse in the under dash fuse box.

If the Check Engine Light comes on for 2 seconds and then goes out, when the ignition switch is turned to ON (Position II), then the problem is distributor related. Usually, replacing the Ignition Control Module (ICM) and coil inside the distributor solves the problem. Be sure to coat the back of the new ICM with silicone heat transfer grease. Both of these problematic components should be replaced every 120,000 miles or 10 years, whichever comes first.

Where and what would I be listing for and what does it sound like if it is good? And where is the fuel pump located on my car? 1993 civic dx 2 door? How do I check to see if the fuel pump is getting fuel to the motor?

The fuel pump is located in the gas tank--just listen for the motor running, when you turn the ignition switch to ON. I have never seen a bad Honda fuel pump myself.

Hook a pressure gauge to the banjo bolt on the top of the fuel filter.
