On the 7.3 there is a 3/4 npt plug in the oil cooler, that is where you put the block heater for the engine.

We just changed out the heating element in my son's '01 F250. We first checked that the power cord was still good with multi-meter, had 120 V at the cord end. Then checked the resistance and continuity on the two terminals of the element. Had no resistance across the two terminals, but the new element showed 15 ohms. This is basically a heating element just like in an electric water heater but with different terminals. Use a 1 1/8" socket to remove the old element, and be damn fast about installing the new one. Also use pipe joint compound and teflon tape so it will come out next time. You will get a coolant shower unless you drain the radiator first. This only takes 5 minutes to switch out after you get the truck on the lift and get the guts to do it. We got the parts from an E-bay supplier for about $60. If my truck had a lot of years/miles, I would change out this element the next time I changed my coolant just to insure it worked when the weather turned cold.
