It's really pretty... too big for my taste... I love the flower though...

Is there perhaps a flower that represents "daddy's girl" or something?

Did you dad have a favorite saying? Or book, or movie?

You could find a meaningful quote ?

I was just looking at Ring Tattoos... That would be cool.. but better on toes. But as I heard on the other Thread some places its not allowed.

How about something that compliments your fathers tattoos?

Or something he had... have you looked at old pics to see his?

Hmmmm, I am going to have to think more about this. If I had a scanner I would mock up some ideas.

At the moment, I think that a tattoo gun with a set of angel wings in pink, purple, blue... and RIP above and his name below.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2200/...0b548488e7.jpg -- like that.. but more turned not a side view. And a bit more detailed but not too realistic.

I don't want all that on me... too much... no tattoo gun... Sorry, I really am picky. That's why its taken me SEVEN years to get to THIS point, I know well what I don't want...

I like the idea of the font though!

    CM, I just did some research on esophageal cancer, and this is the symbol of hope for that specific cancer;

So maybe a tattoo with a butterfly, close to this pic, with your dad's initials incorporated into it.

    What do you think?

No problem CM. You could get an artist to sketch it out for you, use colors you like, anything goes. :)

I'm in my 30's, got my first of 8 tats so far when I was 16 and I personally do not regret them, they are my expression. To each his own, tats aren't for everyone - but since you are wanting one! : )...

I have hmm'd and haaa'd about getting a 'memorial' tattoo for my dad, he passed away quite a few years ago and he was incredibly special to me. There was a flower that he always picked for me when I was a little girl, I got a tattoo of that a few years ago, no words, no names, no anything, just the symbolism to me and I LOVE IT!

Don't rush yourself, you'll know! If you want something more reflective of who you are and not a memorial tattoo at this time really dig deep, your inner persona. Have you checked into symboilsm at all? There are tons of awesome symbolic things in this world, far beyond the basics you see often. FUN TOPIC!! Keep us updated.

Oh cool.. you are on, never had that happen before! Lol..

I have a book on symbolism, there are probably sites online, any kind of vibe you have in mind or are you really thinking right now of your father, and something symbolic with him? I'm so sorry.. I had posted before I read all of your posts, just finished. I love Altenwegs idea too... it will however be a permanent fixture of what he died from, so think of that too (it's a beautiful butterfly though - unique idea)

Well, considering what he died from won't ever change... You know, it's not a bad idea... it's a good idea... still no positive about it yet though.

I'm thinking that I'll get it done in a year or so, so I'm gathering tons of ideas right now.

I want something kind of glowy and ethereal, angelic, mystical if you will...

I don't want anything religious... Something that represents him and me...

The nice thing about the butterfly is that it's girlie too, not only symbolic. For people who don't know the symbolism behind it, it's just a butterfly tattoo, it's up to you if you want to tell them what it signifies. If you don't tell then it's just for you, symbolic to you, and not to the world.

Mine was fairly easy to choose, I wanted the hearts because of the love that my parents shared with each other, and the love they had for me. I put their initials in the hearts so that I'd have a piece of them with me always. The diamond in the middle is to unite the two hearts, so that they will be together forever, the anklet part is just to complete the tattoo, for looks only. ;):)

Whatever you choose has to be special to you, something that you can look at and enjoy, but also remember what it signifies to you and you alone.
