    Mars closest to earth
In my CD, it says that as Mars make one orbit around the Sun, Earth makes two... and so there should be one in every two years that Mars and earth line up so that Mars is closest to Earth...

Yet recently in the news, they say that Mars has come closest to earth which happens once in nearly 60,000 years

Now since the orbit of Earth and Mars are both not circular but slightly elliptical, then is both of the above true (ie, mars comes closest to earth once in every two years, however, only once in nearly 60,000 years does it come as close as it just did on Aug 27 2003 (35 million miles (56 million kilometers))??
