Clafairy, I haven't really been exposed too much manga, or tried it, but I do kind of like it, I reckon the eyes in manga art are just amazing :)

Wow--this thread is a lot to take in. I have been buzzing around this forum for over a week now but--as you told me not to be Clough--I have been way too intimidated to even start a post. Everyone here seems really active in their art, which is great to see. With two kids I don't paint as often as I would like. Though I see that some of you have the same situation and prevail anyway.

Thanks--I've been inspired to buckle down and work with some color--if only to keep the right side of my brain from seizing.

Hi there! So glad to see you post on this thread. This thread is a lot to take in but what a wonderful world of art and friends it has opened up to me. You will see as you read this thread how supportive and kind the posters are. I also felt intimidated to post my work in the beginning but was encouraged to do so yet just had to wait until I felt comfortable. I am so glad I did and you will be also. I am confident of that! I look forward to more posts from you including posts of images of your work. :p

Here are a few pieces that are typical of me.

The first two are oil pastel on bristol board, 14x17, both done near Gore Mountain in New York. The very first piece is of the Hudson River. Working outside was so much fun. We spent every afternoon of an entire week outside painting.

The second two are of a fabric sculpture done for a show at the Norman Rockwell Museum in Massachusetts. Theme was New Digs for the Dog (reinventing Snoopy's abode, from the Charlie Brown comic). It's fabric, crochet and beadwork built over a metal frame.

Funny that you did fabric stuff because I'm back in skewl now and our first project in yr 12 art will be to design and make some clothes (only one other guy in the class so I guess it makes sense)

Each was an ornamental twig ball (attached to the top of a metal tube), covered with poly-fil stuffing (I think) tacked (stitched) in place, that was covered with the fabric tacked in place. The webbing is a crocheted net made from thread (yarn) removed from the same upholstery fabric that covers the base of the sculpture (crocheted in place--whose bright idea was that). The hanging threads are decorated with fimo and/or sculpey beads made to coordinate.

Remembered more than I thought I did. Must have blocked the pain of trying to get that thing done on time. Oh, wait--there it is.

Clothes--that will be something to tackle. You'll have to share.

Yes, it would be good to see some of your art posted startover22! I would really enjoy that! Do you already have some images of things that you have done? What is it with wood that you do? Doing things with wood is really the element that I am most comfortable working with as far as the visual arts are concerned.

I should rephrase this... instead of getting my art on, I should get my crativity on. I sure do enjoy free hand cross stitching, each time I do one, I feel there is improvement in the next... I haven't ever taken pics. I suppose I could do one maybe very soon. I will take a pic when I am done.
With the wood, I love to do stencils and some painting, or just stripping down an old piece of furniture and painting it. I haven' done any of that in a long time. Not enough kid free time for that right now. I love to make antique looking signs, and now that I am talking about it, I miss it so much. I am getting all excited... tomorrow I shall go old barn wood hunting!
As far as carving wood, sharpening a good marshmallow stick is as far as I go with that.. Heehee!

Hey there,

I purchased the cut out blanks at an art show I attend once a year. It comes in three pieces and after painting, you put hinges in place so it hangs on a wall, closed to show the outside of the ark or open to show Noah and wife and animals, two by two. :p

It was a fun piece to do. I can't take credit for the pattern. It came with the blanks. It took me forever to paint. I am generally a fast painter but it took awhile to get the colors just like I wanted them and the cartoonish style is not my strong suit but it was a fun piece to paint.

When I began the project, my married children asked me, "Who gets this"? I laughingly told them, "The first one to give me a grandchild." Of course, I know that had no bearing on their decisions for the timing of their pregnancies :p but it has been a fun little joke in the family. It went to my firstborn grandchild, a grandson, Benjamin. He is seven now and it still hangs in his room.

I have painted pieces for each grandchild except my fifth. I am looking for a special project for her now. She will be my last unless the kids chose to adopt, which they have talked about from time to time. Then I may be painting from now on. LOL

I hope you enjoy viewing this as much as I enjoyed painting it. :)

Got some stuff together to start my new little cross stitch thingy! I can't wait to get started, I have to run to the fabric store and get a few little things, but then I will be on my way to a new and fun project! Love it jrebel, love it! Looks like it took a lot of time and patience! Great work!

In art lately we have been learning and media testing with felting, estapol, dissolvable vilene, batik, salting, dies, etc.
Not my usual area, but I suppose I can handle it and do something with it.
