    Treatment for sinusitis
Does anyone have any home remedies for sinusitis? I'm pregnant so I can't take antibiotics. Thanks!

No one should use antibiotics as a first line treatment for sinusitis, even though some (uninformed) physicians do use them. Treat the underlying cause, which is often nasal congestion that blocks sinuses from draining. Nasal sprays and/or salt water nasal flushes and decongestants help. Avoid antihistamines during acute sinusitis, though.

Do not get me wrong when asking this, how are you teeth?

I had sinusitis for years always infected, also had a few cavities, I did not have dental insurance, so I basically dealt with the pain until it went away. Last summer we finally got dental at work for all of the employees (bus Drivers included) yippy. Well to make a long story short, I had a molar in my upper left side of my jaw that was abscessed which was draining into my sinuses causing me to have sinusitis, the tooth has been removed and I have not had sinusitis since, also I no longer have post nasal drip, well I was just wondering

Oh I totally know what you mean, lilfyre! I've chronic sinus problems for about 5 years now, and I used to have really bad pain in one tooth, and after it was pulled I had some relief from my sinuses. However, the problems came back, and I ended up having sinus surgery 2 years ago. Turns out I had nasal polyps, which were removed during the surgery. I breathed better for a while after that, but still, I seem to have a problem with recurring sinus infections. I'm glad you mentioned this actually, because I think I'm going to go to the doctor and ask to have my sinuses x-rayed again. Could be that some of the polyps have grown back. As you know m husband is a physician too, so maybe he can get me into surgery soon if I need it! ;) Although I will have to wait until after the baby is born.

What I'm really looking for in this post though is any safe home remedies for sinusitis... if not to cure it, at least to make me more comfortable until something else can be done. I use simply saline 2x a day and I've been through all the usual courses of treatment with no success. Chery told me the other day about taking a tablespoonful of horseradish, haha. Haven't tried it yet, but I'm going to. :)

They make some nice little packs that you mix with warm water in a plastic bottle, Not sure where you are at, in the US you can buy them at walmart. They also have a electric machine that flushes your nasal area with warm watter, also Walmart but I am sure all the major drug stores should have them also

Oh okay thanks Fr Chuck... I think I know what you mean, like a nasal irrigation system or something? I will look at Wal-Mart, thanks again. :)

I can't avoid dairy products right now, as I'm pregnant. I'm supposed to have much more than usual. But thanks for the suggestion of the nasal douche kit, and I will write down the dairy product idea and perhaps use it after I am done with pregnancy and breast feeding!

Boil water , at salt, after boiling, turn off the burner, place a towel over your head over the pot, breathe the mist from the pot aporox 10 minutes. I got this from a older doctor. Most people you will along the ocean don't have sinus problem, the Salt air. I personally do this good for about one month.

Good idea, thanks, I will try it too!

That's very interesting about people living near the ocean not having sinus problems. Unfortunately I am nowhere near an ocean!

    Hey there,
Acupuncture is your best bet I reckon. It will also be good for you during pregnancy, as it balances your system and creates more relaxation and for sinus headaches (which are a killer as I used to get them all the time) literally "lifts" the pressure out of your head. Shop around, because it can be pricey, but you might find you will suit you.
And by the way, I was completely phobic of needles before having it. Results outweighed the fear, and I used it as an opportunity to overcome something. Hope this is of some help!:)
