I began taking birth control pills around 11 years ago to regulate my periods. I am 5'5 and had gotten down to 100 pounds, which caused my periods to cease. The doctor put me on birth control to cause me to have periods and I have been on birth control pills on and off since then. I have been on them for the past 7 years, with no breaks. During the time I was on and off them (college), I never did have a period on my own (without birth control pills). Now that I have quit taking birth control pills in order to start a family, I am worried that my period won't start again by itself. I am much healthier now, compared to when the doctor put me on them 11 years ago. I weigh around 118, exercise and eat very healthy. I know they say that if you were irregular before birth control pills, you will likely be irregular when you stop taking them. Is this true in my case, since I am much healthier now and am a healthy weight? I had normal cycles before I lost about 20 pounds my senior year of high school. I am now 28 years old. I have been off birth control for 1 month and 1 week and do not think I have ovulated yet (BBT), and I haven't had a period.

It can take 3 months or more to regulate your body after coming off because. It is not true in all cases that if your period was irregular before because that it will be the same after. Putting on a little weight should have helped. I went on because around 14 years old because my period were every 2 weeks lasting 8-9 days. I was on several different forms of because for about 8-9 years, including the depo shot for just less than a year and a half. When I went off my periods were around 25-28 days regularly. I was off all forms of because for 6 months before I started trying to conceive. It took another 6 months to get pregnant. Just be patient and see what your body does. I would say that if you haven't had a period in another 3 weeks (2 months from stopping bc) to go in and see your doctor. You may need to take a medication to start your cylce back up. Let us know how things go, and if you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask!

Thanks for your input automansgirl. I know that individuals vary on how their bodies will react when they stop taking birth contol pills. I hear about women that went right to a normal cycle immediately and I know that is not likely for everyone. I need to be patient.

Thanks again.

You can also try Ovulation Calendar and Ovulation Chart - FertilityFriend.com (http://www.fertilityfriend.com) and start charting now so that you'll know when your body starts to ovulate too.

I am charting my BBT on Fertilityfriend.com. I began charting on cycle day 24 and am now on cycle day 36. Since I began charting, my temps have been consistently in the low 97 range. The highest it has gotten was 97.51. I am thinking it will go higher than that if I do ovulate.
