Although the light works on the ceiling fan, the fan won't operate. I swapped out both the wall switch and the fan wiring harness, which included the capacitor, reverse switch, and switch. The fan had worked flawlessly until I attempted to switch the fan direction las winter. When I engaged the switch I saw some sparks flying and heard a sound as if something was caught. If something came loose I cannot see it as everything appeared well in the old and new harness kit. Does anyone have any suggestions where else to look. Don't the light and the fan draw power from the same initial wires? I am attempting to go up the next stage of the fan to look for disconnected wires, but I am at the top of my ladder.
Incidentally, Joanne at Ceiling Fans USA provide great service, in sending out the harness kit. Unfortunately, this is a discontinued model, which goes perfectly with the décor. Hampton Bay responded by telling me to take the fan to Home Depot, get it field scrapped, and receive a $50 gift card by mail, or if I find the receipt, that amount gift card by mail
Any suggestions or tests would be appreciated. Thanks
