I'd really appreciate your help.
I'm planning on purchasing a new laptop, and this time I want to make the right decision about everything inside so it will perform well. (gaming talking.. )
My current laptop although was 'strong' the time I bought it (a year+ 2.4GHZ, 512MB) is a real disappointment is the gaming area, and some other power consuming tasks such as; extracting, creating and copying big files.
So what would be the right configuration for me to be able to play the latest games decently (I'm not asking for top performance, with everything set on high), and perform the above mentioned tasks well?
Basically, what are the minimum requirements of: Cpu (pentium m?) speed, Ram size and speed, and most important Graphic card.

BTW, does any of Intel's graphic cards can deliver a decent performance with the latest games?

First, I just want to say - why a laptop? Laptops aren't built for playing games. They don't have the screens for it, the keyboard layout is a lot tighter together and you have to use a touchpad unless you plug in an external mouse. If you're worried about the amount of space a desktop PC will ltake up - just get a space saver setup.

That said base some of your decisions on your budget. Here's what I recommend:

Processor: Go for a Pentium M. You can put regular processors in laptops but they tend to heat up more, consume more power etc. As for speed, not sure what kind of speeds you can get with the M's. Just aim for something around the 3Ghz mark if that's possible.

RAM: 512MB at least. If you can afford more - go for it.

Graphics: Something with at least 256MB RAM if you intend to play a lot of games on this thing.


Seriously though, if you want a gaming PC - don't go for a laptop. They aren't built for that kind of thing.

I agree with LT, laptops are for mobile business pros, not serious gamers. Most laptops don't include high powered video that gamers want and there is no way to upgrade the video.

If you are looking for a SERIOUS gaming laptop then you can't go worng with one from Alienware, they rock sox!!
