I have this murray riding mower that I bought 3 years ago. My wife and I are 80 years old and decided last fall to retire from cutting grass. She mowed about 5 months ago and pulled it in the garage to park it. I decided to sell the mower and a gentleman came over to look at it but it will not do anything, we put a new battery in it but it will not turn over at all. Also, when you press the clutch in it acts as though its still in gear. Should you be able to roll the mower if you press the clutch in? And is there a safety device that would stop the engine from cranking if the transmission is engaged. I am trying to get it to the shop to have it fixed , but it will not roll so I can get it up the ramps on my truck. Is there anything you can suggest to help me get it out of gear or get it cranked. Can it be taken out of gear when it is not running? Or is that a safety feature to keep kids from accidentally knocking it out of gear on a hill or something? PLEASE HELP ME ALL YOU CAN. SINCERELY, TRIKI IN N.C.

Sounds like to parking brake has gotten engaged. Usually a small round rod stick out down near your right ankle. Look for the rod and try pushing it in or down.
