I posted a message earlier asking if switching the 1099 from my spouse to my name would save on our taxes See post:

Now I have a follow up question. This income is derived from Google Adsense and the name on the Google Adsense account is my spouse's and the payments come in her name, via EFT transfer to our bank.

Google will not allow a name change on the Adsense account, so it is not possible to move the Google Account into my name. The only way is to close my spouses account and apply for a new account in a new name. However, this would result in having to change the code on 500+ individual web pages and would result in a substantial interupption of revenue, if the new application for the account was even granted.

However, Google does allow a change to the W-9 tax form filed with them. The form is pre-filled in with my spouse's name, (cannot change) but there is a spot for business name (if different). This is an individual/sole proprieter business.

Can I put my name in there and my social on this form?

I would really like to save on the SE tax if possible, but I don't want to do anything illegal.

Thank you.

The Social Security/Medicare taxes are to be paid byand credited to the individual whose earnings aresubject to such taxation. You cannot step into the role of that person.

And the self employment tax is the same no matter who it is for 15 percent, so it will be 15 percent for you or for the other person,
