I have a 1993 Honda Ballade 160i(South Africa). I think this is the same as a Honda Civic 1.6. The car runs fine when cold, but as the engine heats up, it starts to mis-fire under 3000 RPM. I am looking for some advice on where to start checking?

. Ensure spark plugs (NGK only), distributor cap, and rotor are in good shape.
. Test/replace Ignition Control Module (igniter) and coil. Igniter is likely the cause. Here's how to do it:

I have tried that already, but it did not help.. Why does it only splutter when the car gets warm? Could it be a fuel pump or relay problem? Sometimes the car will not start and I do not hear the fuel pump operating.

Thaks for the last post.

What you describe could be from dirty fuel injectors. When cold, they're held open longer but when the engine warms up and fuel demand is lower, the pintle inside the injector tries to close off some of the fuel flow but because it's dirty, just ends up spoiling the fuel flow, resulting in sputter, etc. Have them cleaned by a qualified technician and let us know. Good luck!
