Hi Folks,

My daughters PC is running windows xp and for a while now it has had so shutdown problems.

When clicks on start then shutdown, it takes approx 5 minutes or more before the actual window pops up for her to choose shutdown or restart etc.

Today when I tried it, the shutdown/restart window did not appear at all and I had to switch off manually.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

Charllie

Doesn't sound good. First thing I recommend doing is to download some spyware removal tools and give these a shot:

AdAware - http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Personal-Edition/
Spybot S&D - http://www.download.com/Spybot-Search-Destroy/3000-8022_4-10289035.html?tag=lst-0-1
MS Windows AntiSpyware - http://www.download.com/Microsoft-Windows-AntiSpyware/3000-8022_4-10353596.html?tag=lst-0-1

Chances are that there are some rogue programs that your daughter has picked up while surfing the net that are causing the problems.

Hi LTheobald,

Thanks for your reply. I have done that, I have spybot and adaware on there as standard as well as trend micro firewall/virus. I run them on a weekley basis.

I think your right about the fact that it probably is something to do with rogue programs but can't seem to find anything unusual.

Thanks
