I'm installing a new toilet soil pipe in my bathroom and when I attach the 4" PVC elbow that will attach to the flange, the pipe comes more than 2" above the subfloor. Any ideas how I will be able to get this flush against the tile once it is installed? Also, I purchased a 3"/4" flange to installed, does this have to be glued in or does it just rest on the tile and in the soil pipe? Thank you.

I hope you haven't glued t65hat 90 in yet. That fitting won't get it. It's going to be tight but I think a 4" PVC Street 90 might work. The end the flange glues on MUST be bald,(hubless).
A 3 X 4" flange fits inside a 4" pipe and outside a 3" one. The flange must be glued to the pipe coming out of the floor. More questions? I'm as close as a click. Tom

Fortunately, I have not glued the 90 in yet. I was considering going from a 4" to 3" pipe with a Fernco connector. Ideally, with the 3" 90, it will give me a tighter angle and will get the soil pipe more flush with the floor. Either way, I agree with you, and I'm definitely going to go with a street 90. What do you think?

Had the same issue went with a 3" street elbow and a 3" flange and that reduced the height enough for me. Speedball is correct as usual

I got a 3" and a 4" 90 degree street elbow just to cover my bases. Looks like the 4" will do fine. Might have to take a 1/2" off or so from it, but it looks good. Thanks for the help.

I come across this all of the time in remodels, I usually buy a 3x3 cast iron closet bend (http://www.abifoundry.com/images/CLOSET_BEND.gif) and use a Mission, Fernco or Pro-Flex CP-33 (http://www.fernco.com/images/proflex.gif) to connect it to the 3" ABS or PVC trap arm.

I then wait until the floor is finished, telling both the carpenter installing the sub floor and the tilesetter to leave me at least 3/8" of room around the stub out coming through the floor.

When it comes time to set the water closet, I install a 3x3 cast iron torque set closet flange (http://www.plumbingproducts.com/images/jonespec-cf-2980.gif), bolting it to the stub out and fastening it to the floor -- I then take a 4" angle grinder with a cut off wheel installed and cut off the portion of pipe protruding beyond the closet flange.

It's a lot of work, but given how I must warranty my work, it negates the need to cut off part of the gluing surface of the plastic 90 and plastic closet flange.

Installed the 4" 90 street elbow and it looks good. Thank you for the help.
