A proposal has been made to owners of our apartment building to repipe using copper pipes. Assessments are around $5,500 for a 960 sq condo. The building has 107 suites.

In repiping an apartment, I would most definitely use CPVC (plastic) water piping. Current prices on all metals are rising, and CPVC has some advantages as well. If the water is acidic, it will corrode the solder connections and cause pinhole leaks over time. This is normally the most common failure to copper water pipes. My advice... leave the copper to heating and refrigerant lines!

I agree with Doc that CPVC is cheaper and has less problems then copper but I would check local codes to see if plastic's allowed. Good luck, Tom
