I have two Hampton Bay fans that hum when operating. The hum is loudest at the low and medium speeds. Any suggestions?

I think it's their nature, Money and Hunter Original will fix.

Hunter Originals are made overseas now and are not nearly as good as they used to be. I prefer American made fans whenever possible.

There could be something wrong with the fans, or it could be something you can change, check these troubleshooting instructions:

Ceiling Fan Repair man, sorry to hear about Hunter. Last I heard, Was Robbins Myers or something like that. Do you still add oil?

Also, If you have Fan Control, Leave fan on high.
Cheaper Fan Controls can be louder.

Robbins and Myers has not made Hunter ceiling fans since the early 80s. Hunter Originals were still made in Memphis until early 2000s. They moved production overseas and began using a much smaller motor. The overseas Originals are Energy Star rated. They still take oil. See:

I have a Hampton Bay fan, not Hunter. Are they one in the same?

They used to be much different, But with outsourcing, mergers, bottom line. For all I know , they MAY be the same.
I Used many Hunter fans with oil, They were the quietest, smoothest, most reliable fan
Available. I just heard company has changed.

Hampton Bay is STILL much worse than Hunter.
