Hello everyone,

For the past few months I have been babysitting for a neighborhood family. I pick up their two grade-school boys from school and watch them for around three hours a day until their parents get home. I have been charging eight dollars an hour. They have asked me if I would continue watching the kids into the summer, which would mean I would be with the kids all day. They have asked me to decide on a weekly or daily rate instead of an hourly rate. I would be with the kids for about 9 hours a day. What would be a fair?

Thank you so much for responding, I really appreciate it.

I have to say I am not sure... this is a full time job in the summer, with tons of responsibility. Perhaps you should check into the rates of local daycares (call and ask their weekly fees for 2 kids, 9 hours per day, even if you have to pretend you are a mom looking for child care). Base your rate on the average of the places you call, or somewhere near there.
