The truck is a 3.9 V6, fuel injected. We thought it was a fuel pump or fuel filter problem but replacing both of them didn't solve the problem. I replaced the pickup coil (reluctor) or whatever the thing is called inside the distributor. Again no help.

Gas gauge reads normal when you turn the key to on. Crank the truck and the gauge goes all the way to empty. Truck starts and dies almost immediately and I can't keep it running even by spraying gas in the injector. I suspect some relay but the only thing I find on the firewall that resembles an old fashioned relay is the starter relay.

Any clues??

Thanks a bunch

. Check all under-dash and under-hood fuses with a test light or multimeter.
. Check for codes.
. Test/replace the igniter and coil. Many AutoZone stores can do this for free.
. Check ignition switch and harness.

It may be caused by a bad oil preasure sensor which is bypassed when the ignition is in start position
