I've been married 11 years to the same person with no sign of relenting. :)
Hopefully it's my first and only marriage.

Hmm, your use of the passive voice and an inanimate subject "Do marriages last", makes me wonder if you need to start thinking in different terms. It's the people in the marriage that make it last or not. You should be thinking about what each of you, the active subjects, can do to make things work in the long term.

Parent is both a noun and a verb (as in parenting or to parent), as is Mother... too bad we don't have a verb/noun for being in a marriage, to impart that it is an action.

If you believe " Marriage is for keeps" then it surely will last...

A second marriage stands as good a chance at lasting as you and your partner want to make it last. It is work. Sometimes people from their first marriage and take extra care with the second. Hope that is true for you and your mate.

I'm still on my first of 33 years, but if two people grow and learned from their first marriage the second should be even better. Marriage is a lot of work whether it's the first or tenth.

sassy1280, I have been married going on 23 years to the same person, and we get asked by several people are you two on your honeymoon!! We say yes for 23 years now. We look as a marriage is something you both have to work at not just one. It is not given to you on a silver platter. You will have your up's and down's, but it all comes out later. You have to see that person as your sole mate, and enjoy everything they want to do in life and have them enjoy everything you want in life. Live life together. I hope that you will be on your honeymoon for a very long time.

You have really received some excellent responses here to your question. But I too am a little bit biffed about "2nd marriage, etc." I do know of a couple who have been married for over 35-years now... And they had their vows renewed on their 25th Anniversary. It was a nice party. I went to it. I was an usher, in fact; in the ceremonty. But I felt kind of strange about the whole ordeal. Renewing Vows?:... Is all of that really necessary? I don't think so. You spend a lot of money for what? But it's not me who made that decision. So, who am I to say? If you have experienced 11-years, then I am pretty sure that you will be forever-and-ever. I agree too that there are going to be ups-and-downs. There should be. You should "be tested" once in a while and you can still appear to some that you are honeymooners. I want to wish you the best. You must be doing something right. Take care.
