Hello everyone, I am new to this site and this is my 1st question...

My partner and I both have a child with different partners (aged 4 and 5 years), and we are trying for one of our own. We have been trying for nearly 10 months but still nothing.

He is 42 and I am 28 - do you think age has anything to do with it? I do smoke (only a couple a day) and we both have a drink every night (only one or 2) - but we did this when we both conceived our other children...

Can anyone help?

I hope this helps but a recent statistic I heard was that you only have a 22% chance of getting pregnant a month.

Are you just trying or are you charting your ovulation or anything?
If not you may want to read up on Ovulation and cervical fluid and cervix position. All of these can be found on the internet and can help you find out when you are most likely to get pregnant.

I don't think that age is the problem but I do know that Drinking and smoking can cause problems. It is not good for the baby anyway so I would try to do away with both until after the baby or for good.

I had read somewhere or watched a story one it or something. That the older a man is the higher the risk of birth defects. Although, I can't remember where I got this info, but if you run a search on mens fertility I'm sure you will find it. I would also stop the smoking and the drinking if you can. Start taking prenatals and get a check up with your dr. That's the best advice I can give you. I hope it helps
