I have a 42 inch murray lawn tractor I got from somebody and I was rebuilding it. I took the carb off and cleaned it out, rebuilt it. Its running fine now finally after 4 days of working on it. My problem is I have to have the brake down to start it and I sit on the seat and when I take my foot off the break it kills the engine so I can't drive it around. I'm thinking the switch on the seat might be bad but I checked it and its seems OK. Is there anyway I can bypass the switch under the seat if that is the problem? Thanks for all the help

I don't advise bypassing any safety switches unless just for testing purposes. There is a switch on the clutch/brake and that's your problem. Locate and test that switch. The seat switch appears fine from you describe.

Oh its my brake switch? Because I thought if you let go of the brake and if your not sitting on it then it would die and that is what is happening. Ill check out both switches but I do want to bypass the seat sensor just for test purpose. After a loooong weekend fixing the engine itself, I want to drive it lol and I hatttte absolutely hate electrical work. But thanks for the advice ill let you know how it goes

I've seen safety switches in two flavors and I don't like one of them. The better switch is closed when you sit down. Test with a continuity tester, depress the switch and you will have a circuit. The other switches I've run into are the opposite, depress switch and the circuit is open. I don't like this switch because a broken wire or removed switch will have the same affect as sitting on the tractor. Test all three, clutch/brake, seat and blade engagement switch.
