My daughter has had lice for about 3 weeks now. Every couple of days I pull them all out of her hair, wash everything and vacuum the floor, with a clean bag. And Still they keep coming back.
I am sure the source is at her school but they refuse to do anything, including checking other children. I don't know what else to do.
Any suggestions?
Oh yeah... bought at least 3 kits of lice shampoo etc.. And they don't seem to work.

You need to continue the RID lice shampoo treatments exactly as it says on the box, including repeating the treatment every 10 days.
Also, as a little tip, free of charge, giggle, people with the cleanest hair tend to get the lice the easiest. If you wash your gal's hair every day, then change it to every other day. Put a little hairspray on her hair, keep her hair in a pony tail, or "angle wings" (two pony tails).
If you live in the US your school should be required to check for lice if you report it to the NURSE. Also, they should not let your daughter back in to school if she even has as much as one nit in her hair.
Lice is very common. Most people think of it as a "dirty" bug, but actually the cleaner the kid, the more common the lice.
You must follow the directions on the RID kits to a T. If you leave one nit on the hair follicle you will have another infestation.

J_9 is right. Also, whenever my daughter had the lice problem, it went on for so long that we finally had to go to the Dr. about it. He told us to go to the drug store and get Sulphur pills. I think they were in a purple bottle and said MSM on the front (I'm also not sure of the dosage, you may want to ask your Dr.) but he said that the lice didn't like the smell of the sulphur and would stay away. They are just like vitamins. My daughter hasn't had lice since then either.
Good luck with that, I know it is hard. And yes, it is true, they like the kids with the cleanest hair. The lice with my daughter got so bad that she had bumps covering the back of her neck from the lice so keeping her hair up will be a good idea until you get rid of the problem.
As for the school issue, if they are not taking care of this you need to go higher up. I know in Texas they are required to do something about the lice issue. Keep climbing the ladder of authority until something is done.
ALSO:
-Wash all bedding.
-Treat everyone in the house.
-Clean and boil hairbrushes.
-Clean all hair accessories.

MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane) --those are the Sulphur pills I was talking about and it doesn't necessarily HAVE to be in a purple bottle. It worked wonders for my daughter!

Unfortunately lice have been and will always be part of school life-it's unbelievably frustrating-we just treat and retreat stricly according to the instructions on the hair treatment bottles-sorry but we all have the same problems.
Does the school have a head-lice policy? We have them here in Australia it SOMETIMES helps to keep the problem minimised

I found that Nix works better than Rid. Sometimes headlice can become immune to medicines. Do boil brushes and combs, get a couple of cans of bedding spray and spray down every mattress, couch, chair, cushion, etc in the house. Sometimes people can forget about the car; spray it too. Vacuum well and wash all bedding, pillows, rugs (anything washable) in hot water and dry it in the dryer. Hats, stuffed animals etc should go in plastic bags for a month. You must do all these things each time and be very thorough or it will come back. After treating the hair, go through every strand under bright light and pick out any nits. The combs can miss things, especially if the hair is very fine. Ask the pharmacist if they have any metal combs, they work better. Final tip: after using the OTC meds twice with no results, I SOAKED all of our hair in Olive Oil (a LOT) and wrapped it in saran wrap. Then I put a grocery bag on and tied it. That stayed on for about 8 hours (no shortcuts!). Then I went through the hair and got out the nits. The olive oil is a LOT less expensive and healthier, especially for younger kids. It worked like a charm, and washed out easily with warm water. This is very healthy for the hair (keeps it hydrated) and bad for the lice, so if I were you, I would keep doing it about twice a week as long as she is in school. It doesn't cost much and would probably prevent recurrence. You could put it on at night and wash it before school. Always put the hair up for school and lecture the child about close contact, sharing head related things, etc. **Whatever shirt she is wearing when you put the oil on will be ruined!
P.S. Has anyone checked you? I'm not being funny or anything; when my girls got it, I did too. Then I got rid of theirs but not mine because my husband can't see well enough to check me for nits, so I had to enlist a trusted friend to check me. Finally, after the olive oil treatment, we got rid of all of it.

If the RID doesn't work try mineral oil and miricle whip or mayo- I know EWW!! But I think it works because they can't stay on the hair because its too slimy and greasy to get the stuff out of the hair use hot water(as hot as she can stand) and shampoo and also heavy! Conditioner smuthers them

I am aware that this thread is fairly old but I am going to respond. My sister-in-law was told to do have her daughter dry her hair with the hair dryer the heat would help kill them. To use it on a daily basis. This poor girl had lice every time she turned around. I believe it helped out quite a bit. I think she was getting them from shared lockers.

I have had this problem with my daughter too and its soooo frustrating! I went online and found a miracle! Buy a bottle or bar of castor oil soap. Lather the soap in the hair and add 3 drops of Neem oil and 3 drops of Tea Tree oil. Wrap the hair in a towel or grocery bag and let it sit for 15 minutes. Do this 3 times, washing it out after each session. Then of course you have to pick out the nits and treat the bedding and furniture but it really works! We battled lice for a year before I found this treatment and I thanked God for it I was so tired! The schools are terrible about checking kids and now we have it again! So this time I will be reporting it to the nurse and hopefully that will help.
