I have a newly installed Harbor Breeze fan that is controlled only via the remote. When the switch is in the ON position the fan comes on automatically and cannot be turned off. The remote correctly controls the light but does not work for the fan, i.e.. Changing the speed or turning it off.

I have tried another remote and it does the same thing which tells me its not the remote and somehow connected to the wiring.

Any help would be much appreciated.

How did you wire the fan? It could be a wiring issue, it could also be a bad receiver.

This is one of twelve fans that were wired by an electrician in several homes we recently built. I don't know all the specifics, but they are part of a typical bedroom circuit that is wired to a switch on the wall that supplies the power. This is the only fan that is behaving in this fashion. Without taking any of the wires apart they all seem to be together in the right place - with the correct corresponding matches. How can I check the receiver?

Does the fan have pullchains? If so, you can bypass the receiver and test the fan. If it does not, you will have to get a replacement receiver. If the fan is new just exchange it.

Harbor Breeze fans are made by Litex.

Since you have the receipt, I would attempt to return it. It's either an issue with how it's mounted or a problem with the fan.

Receiver bad or Fan on wrong wire of the Receiver. Using light pull chain for fan, not a bad idea.

Remove your ceiling cap and pull the receiving unit out. You should have 4 wires on one side of the receiver and two (plus ground) on the other. Each one of the wires on the four wire side (I think there is a white, a black, a blue and an orange) has a corresponding wire of the same color coming up the pipe coming up from the fan body. If you don't have these four wires matched up re-wire it. If your receiving unit has less than four on the "to the fan side" you have the wrong receiver (someone probably retro-fitted a off-brand receiver) and you will need to go to Lowe's and order a new one. If your receiver is not burned up and it is wired right AND you have the Harbor Breeze hand held control, all should work. Good luck!

Not every receiver will have those same four wires! Not every fan is the same.

Well Paul I also recently bought a Avian ceiling fan from Harbor Breeze w/ remote and it is also loud it hums from the motor and it make a buzzing sound at the same time. If you have any ideas of how to make the humming noise go away I would love to know how thanks.

Does it work properly except for the sound? What type of wall control are you using?
