I've got maple tree seedlings growing throughout my yard. They are intermingling with a privet hedge that runs across the front of my property and I've started to rip some of the seedlings out. Some of them are pretty mature and I can't rip them out. There are some places where the previous owner has obviously cut a larger seedling down to the stump and there is growth coming from those as well.

Does anyone know the best way to get rid of these and to be sure that they don't grow back from the stump?

Thanks!

They are a time consuming pain. You can try to carefully paint them with Round Up. At times I have bent things out into the grass and sprayed them with broad leaf weed killer. After cutting them off, you can paint the stump with Round Up. Round Up should only kill what it is applied to. I don't know if spraying the base of the hedge with a preemergent would help or not.

Use Round Up Brush killer. It is twice as strong as regular Round Up and works well on woody plants. You might get away with a fine point sprayer butit will kill any part of the hedge you touch. You be the judge since you can see how close the tree and the hedghes get to each other.
