Something has been gnawing on the wood strip right under the roof line. It's a two or three inch space. The hole doesn't go through but there are at least six places on the A sides of my house that have the wood exposed. Any idea of what is causing this and how I might stop them Thanks

Birds... they are trying to find a place to nest... walk around your house and caulk or woodfill in every crack that is developing on your soffets.. screen over your vents too... try one of those plastic owls they are supposed to scare away the birds.

This is likely a wood pecker, have you heard any sharp rapid knocking? Peckers are very persistent and its hard to make them leave. If the plastic Owl doesn't help you may need to get drastic. A wrist rocket full of BBs helped in my case.
