Hello,

My A/C Fan was emitting a loud "Whrrrr".
Which gets loud, then soft, the loud again.
Almost like the sound is oscillating. And
Once in a while it starts "coughing", then
It's back to the "Whrrr"s again.

Well, today the blades stopped spinning
(actually it is spinning, so slow that it has
Yet to complete one complete turn) and
The sound is still there.

Any suggestions?:confused:

Are you talking about the fan on the outdoor unit?

It's a standard stand alone fan.
Not part of a air-con.

It sounds to me like the bearings may be bad on the fan motor. Shut the power off to the unit and give it a spin, does it turn free or is it tight?

The blade spins freely and it can slide a bit back and forth.

How about from side to side? The shaft will have a little give to it when you pull on it but it should not move side to side at all.

What type of motor is it? Does it have a capacitor?

I'm still a little confused about what type of fan this is. Is it an indoor blower fan?

Sorry, I have no idea if it has a capacitator. :D The blade does
Not move left and right. Only back and forth.

Ok, I thought the fan you were talking about was in your heating and air conditiong system, it may be a bad motor it sounds like if the motor isn't locked up then it has shorted windings.

Could it be clogged by any chance? Maybe I should open the motor
Housing up.

Will it start if you let it sit and cool down?

Nope.. it's completely cold but no difference.

I'd say the motor is bad. Thease things aren't really made to be repaired.
