I was driving down the highway at about 65 mph. and the car just lost acceleration. I had the car towed home. No more than a year ago I had a new timing belt put in. I checked the head with the valve cover off and all the valves were straight on the 1500CC engine.

I saw NO bent valves, the timing belt was fine and intact. It almost started when I got it home.

I put a new distributor cap on and new plugs and plug connectors since its Fuel Injected. I was told that it might be the fuel pump.

What test can I perform to check the fuel pump? Again, timimg belt is intact, not broked, the check engine light did NOT COME on, the engine just stopped and then tried to turn over but couldn't. It cam close.

I had it in the dealer last summer and they went over everything, timing belt (installed a new one) put some new rubber gourmet's on the head, tuned it up and prononced it OK at 360,000 miles. It has to be something with the fuel pump.

Any ideas?

Igniter. Make sure it is not an oki. If it is and you replace it, take receipt and part to the dealer and get reimbursed. This was a recall

How many miles does your car have on it? I have owned 3 of this same year and have diagnosed a lot of problems with my car from the mechanic and it does sound like a problem with the transmission, also could be a problem with the engine, catalytic converter or other problems but usually when the 1991 Hondas lose acceleration and don't regain power it needs a new trainy.

I've a '91 Civic LX with a 4-speed automatic, and 75,000 mi. The car vibrates a little when stopped at a stoplight, i.e. in drive but not going anywhere, foot on the brake. I'm thinking it might be the transmission. I've a service manual for my '91 CRX Si that talks about testing the tranny by blocking the front wheels, foot planted on the brake, then flooring the engine for 6-8 seconds. Repeat for different gear selections. I'm hesitant to try those tests - wouldn't want to break anything. My first thought was to lower the idle a bit, right now warmed up it runs 800-900 rpm at idle in park. How would you go about diagnosing this problem?

Redball8... Well with both of our Honda's they both vibrated and one would vibrate and I was told that it was motor mounts because that is the main cause for vibration. With our other Honda it would vibrate heavily and the sterring wheel would vibrate and through the doors would also vibrate and mostly with the car in drive and the foot on the brake... Finally the vibrating got worse and when in drive with the foot on the brake the car would die out but crank righ back up. I was told with that one that it needed a really good tune up and that it needed new motor mounts as well. Even if you get new motor mounts the car will still vibrate some because it is old but it will help. You may notice that your car will vibrate some even heavier when you turn on the heater, the lights on the inside, high beam etc.. What you are experiencing Redball8 can be normal from old cars or it may be that you need a good tune up and replace motor mounts because they do go bad after 100,000 miles and many people don't replace them. This will help with the vibrating altogether and also a tune up will also! Good Luck!
